Suzanne I got your beautiful card!  Thank you so much!  It's up there on my hot pink pinboard with the others...yep I still have most of my Chrissy cards displayed...they all look so purrdy, what's the rush to empty my pinboard!?  We still have our chain of three stars up on one of our front windows too...hehe bring back the festive season!  Definitely beginning-of-the-year-denial...
*must-embrace-2010*

Lots of other random little GR goodies I keep on top of my sub there, at the moment my six MTC Drowsy tickets, stamp postcard thingy, Belvoir mini brochure with Madman poking out of the cover...oh yeah, and one of my many Barbossa's around zee room, I do like this one though because his hat is removable!!!...only a Rushie could relate.  XD

Say hello to one of rushysgirl's little shelves...oh hai!

You call it shrine, I call it decoration!  Now run along.  As ye were gents.

*** Now for the good, the bad and the epic!

- Bad news...my scanner has had a spaz, it's now in the garage ready to say hello to the garbage asap.
- Good news
...my camera takes better 'scans' than my scanner does!...or did!  XD  So those little newspaper scans (or rather me-taking-a-digi-photo-of-a-newspaper-clipping!) will be up on the comm in a few minutes.  :D  Everybody wins.

Epic news P.S style!....you haven't seen a girl run fly down the stairs until you've heard a mother call
"Geoffrey's on tv...exclusive"...A Trashy Affair's word not my mothers...  XD

Would have been nice to catch that moment on tape.  I didn't fall, but if I had, would've been able to make a pretty-penny with a winning entry for Funniest Home Videos...Rushie Style!  ;D

Enough of that, point is, you can thank me...hugs will do, kisses are nice, cupcakes are even better.  :D

Will upload that lovely little 'exclusive' tomorrow on the comm.  Typed preview now- *visualisation required*- glasses & green shirt and there may or may not be dancing...mwahahaha it did ACA good to cover a bit of class on their show...right on the heels of dodgy businessmen and rip-off schemes!

Start of the day - dream wherein I was at a singles hook-up. James May was there, but he was interested in some other girl who couldn't give a toss. (Clearly unbalanced.) I gave up on him and talked to Seth Rogen, who was pining over his ex. Decided James wasn't going to come away, so settled on Seth. Apparently whoever you left with was who you married.*

Went back to Seth's house to live with him- cute 1930s house badly mistreated by the 1970s- fucking filthy. A boarded up basement with the most EVIL vibes, and the next door neighbour would burst in every 5 minutes dressed in demon gear and screeching fake Latin. I told him to piss off. Seth was nice- bit depressed. Had 2 dogs- cute! Wasn't too bothered in the dream, I was determined to make the best of it. Funny thing is- when I went to sleep I was thinking just how much I love my life right now. And I'll tell you why in my next entry.

Middle of the Day - Awesome moment in music shop- I went in to buy some Led Zepplin, the music over the speakers? Teh Zep. T-shirt on the dude behind the counter? Teh Zep. Dude's words? 'that's just how I rolllll..!' I bought the greatest hits he was playing- as soon as he pressed stop some old rocker pulls up from nowhere and says HEY what happened to the ZEP!?! Dude pulls out another albumn, on with the Zep love. We all get down. YES KIDS THIS HAPPENS IN THE COUNTRY. Found Hellboy on DVD for $10. Had best iced chocolate I've ever had.

End of day- Saw Sherlock Holmes again! Even better second time around. Come out to lovely sunshiney evening, rent Series three Dr.Who on dvd and come home. And there's roasted salmon in the oven.

Conclusion? GOOD DAY!

*One of the first things that occurred to me when I woke up was that there's NO FUCKING WAY I just let James wander off after some freak who doesn't care. I'd pull him aside physically, or pull her aside and say ' hey- sell me to this guy and it'll get him off your back.' NO WAY would I just leave it, even for Seth Rogen. I wanted to go back into the dream and fix it. Cunts.

Thanks Alison, Valentina and Esther for your Xmas cards! I've only just received them but they rock! (Especially love the Walsingham in your card, Valentina! *squee*) Love you all!

I saw a curious thing this morning - it's snowing again, and *proper* snowing, and whilst I was walking Phoenix I saw a toad, with a nice covering of snow, sat on the path. A toad! I looked at him with a puzzled frown and gave him a nudge, and he was still alive, but I'm sure he'll be dead by now - I put him out of the snow under a bush, but he must have been freezing! Why would a toad venture out at this time of year, whilst it's so cold? Very strange. Poor bugger.

Please snow don't get much worse - it's bad enough driving conditions already!

So this was a busy, busy weekend!!!

Thursday night was the annual BSU party (minus the actual Blowing stuff up....) We all ate a LOT!! I did Brie en Croute with Brown Sugar and Walnuts, and one with Raspberry, Almonds and Cranberies. The remains of the dishes at the end of the night proved that it was fairly decent. :) Griffith, Ulf, and Amanda took pity on my very rusty and lousy pool skills, and gave me some lessons. Now I just need to practice more!!!

Friday we got up early and went to [info]bantiarna's place to watch the Rose Parade and the bowl games. We brought some snack stuff, and Meriall made a traditional southern New Year's meal of ham, collards, black eyed-peas, cornbread, and mac and cheese. It was all very yummy, and I actually did eat some of the collards. The peas were delish (I need to find out how you fixed those sis. This is the only time Den has eaten those and liked them!!!!!)

Saturday we were *supposed* to go to the St. George's 12th night party, but I got the bad news about Ron early on. I really felt down in the dumps, so we stayed home, and cleaned up a bit, and watched Dr. Who on BBCA all blessed day... (with as depressing as some of the later episodes were, that might not have been a smart move, but eh...) Today, we went to breakfast with the in-laws early, and went to go see a *very* early showing (9:55 am!!) of Sherlock Holmes. That was an awesome film!!! I really want to get it when it comes out. Afterwards, MiL had to go to work since the shop was closed all last week she needed to get the start-up stuff ready. Sadly her partner's father also passed away (last night) so she's gonna be on her own this week*.

After the movie, we headed up to Greenville, where we spent our Gift Certificates. First stop was Micheal's where I picked up a new cookie press, and a couple of odds and ends since they did not have the bamboo DPNs I wanted. Then we hauled over to Target, where we spent crazy money on DVDs, and picked up Star Trek, Tootsie, Shaun of the Dead (for $5.00!!) and Hot Fuzz. Den also picked up the Nine soundtrack, which was awesome. We bopped on over to Total Wine to blow the Gift Certificate BiL gave us, and we got some more Poizin, some Orevieto, and some Houge Reisling. Then we hit B&N where Den spent his gift cert, I picked up a Hiroshige book, and we renewed our membership. We were going to get coffee, but the line was so long, and since it was almost 4:00, we just skipped over to Brixx and got dinner.

So tomorrow back to work. Next Sat is Kingdom 12th night. Then we plan on hitting GA Aquarium on MLK day. And here I thought things were gonna slow down after the holidays were over!!

*This whole death thing can end soon!!! One of Den's former co-workers passed away on Christmas Eve and her memorial was New Year's Eve. Then Ron, and Kathy's Dad. This is more than enough for the year, and I demand that it end!!!!!!

After the

RIP
So way back when, in the early 90's, I was out of college (due to my own stupidity), and was living at home with the parents. My Mon had suggested that if I wanted to sing, I should audition for the local theater groups. On thing, led to another and the whole family got involved with David Meenan and RTG productions. During the second show we did with David, I started seeing a guy named Steve, and one night he asked a fellow actor if he knew a place we could go just to hang out, and have a couple of drinks, that wasn't a Jersey Shore "party bar". We were directed to check out a small place in West End Long Branch, called Ron's West End Pub.

Steve and I went and found a place that was pretty much unlike any bar I'd ever seen. It looked like someone had gutted an old beach cottage, put a bar in the living room, and filled the place with an eclectic mix of stuff. The owner, Ron, was an older gent that loved music, so he had a live pianist in the place Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and a lot of the local Community theater folks/singers would bring their own music, in addition to what was available in the bar. Unfortunately (or depending on how you look at it, fortunately) Steve and I did not last too horribly long as a couple, but I continued to go to Ron's. My first year hanging out there, I met Carlo, Peter, Rodney, Joelle, and of course Ron.

Over the next years or so, Ron's was my weekend home. I became a better singer there, by learning to tailor my music to an audience, and being more comfortable singing in a small intimate setting. I doubt I could have taken on the Baronial Herald job without having my weekends at Ron's. Ronnie loved to hear us all sing, but he wasn't just a passive audience. He'd get up and sing old standards along with us. When we'd done particularly well, there was an old bell at the end of the bar he'd chime for us.

This morning Carlo informed me via Facebook that Ron died yesterday from a heart attack. Though the place had changed during my intervening years here in SC, Ron's was still welcoming when I came back home to visit. Now if feels like the heart of the place is gone. Ron, we'll all miss you. Thanks for such a wonderful place for us all to perform and for all the laughs. Whoopie!

You-oo-ve got the magic touch
You make me glow so much
It casts a spell, it rings a bell
The magic touch

Oh-uh-oh when I feel your charm
Its like a fourth alarm
You make me thrill so much
Youve got the magic touch

If I go reeling, uh-oh, Im feeling the glow (uh-oh)
But where can I go from you

I didnt know too much
And then I felt your touch
And now Ive learned I can return
The magic touch

If I go reeling, uh-oh, Im feeling the glow (uh-oh)
But where can I go from you

I didnt know too much
And then I felt your touch
And now Ive learned I can return
The magic touch

Nah, I'd rather be a groupie XD

Sad I know!

But if I had to choose just one, I think you'll all know them, they never quite went platinum...which is a real shame because they had the crowd going wild!

Duh...Hamish & Geoffrey...*LIVE* ...  *cue insanity and making no sense whatsoever to those who didn't witness the most epic gig known to mankind...kinda like missing the Clash in '77, Elvis on Long Island, the Pistols on the Thames, Springsteen at Wembley, Morrissey at the RAH!!!!!!!*  XD  Sorry.  No overstatements here, no sir!

It was a sell-out though!...kind of a surprise gig so the sell-out thing was accidental but still...they went AWWWWF baby!

Just when you thought the triangle wasn't going to make a comeback...

Just when you thought air guitar was dead...

Just when you thought sex-face couldn't get any sexier...

Just when you thought air-piano couldn't bring down the house...

Just when you thought....well that it's late and the composer of this entry needs to calm down and go do something useful....flourish and exit!

I want that as my iPhone cover.  *liek naooow*
Some people have The Beatles, I have Hamish & Geoffy.
At least I could guarantee it'd be a one-of-a-kind.  XD

Thunder here!  What a nice way to start 2010...  :D

Yes I speak to most of you from the future...currently after 3am and I'm back and ready to go to bed and listen to this lovely rain on the roof...I must be getting old!  XD

I'm not much for all the resolutions hoo-ha, but all I wish for you lovely people in the coming year (when you finally catch up that is!...the time difference still does mah head in!) is that you can be as healthy and happy as possible.  And for myself the very same!  Here's to much Rushie-ness in 2010!  Dunno what this new decade will bring, but it'll be an interesting ride.

It *SERIOUSLY* doesn't seem that long ago that I was watching the new millenium sunrise from atop Powers Lookout!  Crazy.

Anywhoooo...

Can't wait to see all the money-pissing beautiful fireworks displays around the world now!

Here's what Sydney did with their 'little' bridge up there...hehe I switched off their display halfway through, Melbourne ones are always better anyway ;D

Okay okay...I will admit...Sydney Harbour does look pretty spectacular all lit up for New Years, but do they really *need* to spend millions and millions on the whole thing!?  I mean...couldn't it look pretty for half the ridiculous sum they spend everywhere...or a quarter of it?  Oh don't ask me...but it went on too long...after about 5 minutes it's like oh lookie-here another cracker...woop-di-doo.  XD

Ah, isn't it glorious...it's like the whole world coming together saying we want to spend billions on shiny things that are destroyed in a matter of seconds!  I think they need to stop saying that...in more circumstances than one!  Ring-a-ding-ding.  XD

Tra-la-la-la-la...I mean, I'm sure (actually I'm 100% certain) it'd be *much* cheaper to hire Geoffrey for the night (that's what she said! XD lame joke quota allocation exceeded) to dance...and sing!...and just Skype it on giant screens all around the world!  If they want shiny, he can wear lights...maybe a sparkler or two on his hat...it'll be far more entertaining for everybody (I use the term everybody rather loosely!!!) and they can give the remaining unspent millions to charity.

See, all sorted...MRRRRR RUDD!!!  I'm callin' you out...our PM that is!  MRRR SHANNNAHAAAN you're off the hook this time!  Rudd, you're in big trouble if this is not in place by the end of the year.  This is your first and last notification, I'll assume you've received it, get it sorted.

(lame sexual joke and Shanahan reference in the one post- conclusion: I'm tipsy)

Good night (I mean morning) and see you on the other side!

Has anyone out there in LJland seen Fantastic Mr.Fox? I'm of two minds- on the one hand the script looks clever, on the other hand...

...the animation looks hideously bad and it's all 'Mericanised and not at all pastoral and oldie englandy like I'm used to it being and why do they have to funk up everything are people just too STUPID to understand the characterisations and cultural gentility of the past WHY HAS MY FANTASY BRITAIN DESERTED ME?!?!?!

I mean...it's different. In a bad way. I like my pre-war, Donald Chaffin illustrated Foxy. He's a genuine chap who says things like 'indeed'. He's Bertie Wooster, and it looks like they've gone and made him James Bond. D:

You know, I think that it is that people are too stupid. They can't relate to anything outside their own cultural sphere, and they've all been trained to think their life is one big Family Guy episode. I hate it.

I like stuff about modern times I really do- I've no problem with progress, I'm happy to live in the now, there's no way I'd live in pre-war Britain as it was (no internet) but why can't I pretend it still exists? Why can't I pretend everything is still all green hills and bowler hats? Why can't I have roast beef for lunch every sunday? Why?

WHY do they have to take precious elements like Mr,Fox and turn him into this...this....modern cock!?!

Wah.

ps I saw Sherlock Holmes last week, I want to see it again!!

I just watched the recent Doctor Who on the BBC iPlayer and... I still hate John Simm's Master. Spoilerific )

My Master's still the classic one... the actor whose name I've forgotten right now, damnit... but he was so much more my type of villain. He had a beard, for one. :) Clichéd, but cool.

And tomorrow - I go shopping for pinstripes for the Discworld Con'! XD I know it's ages away, but it's sale time, so I may as well see if there's anything going cheap!

I've decided that in 2010 I am going to:

1) Attempt the [info]50bookchallenge - I'm going to write a list of readily available books I own then, if I manage to get that far, invade my library. (It may include re-reading the Discworld books I've already read to polish up on that particular fandom...)

2) Start to write my novel. Who knows if I'll ever finish it, never mind publish it, but an author was on TV the other day giving out recommendations for budding writers and one of them - to make a list of all things you like - unlocked a door in my head and suddenly the story and a pile of characters seem to be forming! Yay! Let's go!

3) Go to Discworld Convention. I don't think I'll likely be able to go abroad this year because this will be my main holiday, and I may be going to London for a few days in March which will add to the expense. But yay! Gonna be fun!

So- there's this thing called Top Gear some of you might've heard of.

I REALLLLLLLLLY want to go to the live show next February, but it's, well- FUCKING expensive.

REALLLLLLY want.> )

And hi, I'm back in LJ town! :D

Life is vexingly expensive good! I'm living in the country again- back at my mum's place in Warragul. I won't go into the details, just that I'm generally happier here than what I was in the city. Now that fucking Christmas is over I'm looking forward to getting on with things here.

I think I'm capable of working now (and to say that in the middle of summer is really something) and there are job prospects in a couple of areas of the library. I'm also thinking about going into politics (seriously), so there's a job at the Shire offices to think about.

Then there's the art exhibition I mentioned. And I'd like to start a craft market too, since there's not one around here. Either a craft market or an eco market. I want to support the local artist community but I'm just as passionate about supporting local sustainable business.

So yeah- all that. I'm working my way through my flist, but if something significant has happened to you since I been away, do let me know!

So Christmas was pretty quiet. My BiL wanted to host this year since the niecelet is 2 years old, and it would be a whole lot less stressful on her to have things at his house. So once I got out of work, I hauled butt home, and Den and I drove on up to Winston-Salem. I had talked to Mom and Dad the night before and since we were not going to be at home, they told us to go ahead and open our main present. They got us a Nextar GPS, which I promptly started to call a "Sat-Nav". (Yeah... I have been watching WAYYYYY to much "Top Gear"*) We'd plugged it in, and charged it up, so we figured we'd test it out on the ride up. We had written directions to cut over in Gastonia, hook up with 40, and exit in Clemmons which was easier for us. The Sat-Nav, at first looked like it was going to direct us through Charlotte to 77, and we were waiting for the machine to have a hissy. Well we got to Gastonia, and it told us to exit @ 17, which was our plan in the first place. It then gave us the exact directions we had written down. WHEEEEEE!!! While it was "eh" for the highway, it was certainly worth it for the backroads!!

We got to the in-laws around 7:00ish, and dinner was just about on the table when we arrived. They had Moravian Chicken Pies, which I'd never eaten before, and boy, oh boy were they yummy!! (Previous entry is a recipe, which I will have to indulge in, especially since I can freeze and re-heat it...) After dinner we all crashed, and woke up early Friday to open presents. We got a Food Processor from the MiL, and a gift card for Total Wine from the BiL. The niecelet was too funny. She never did open all her presents on Christmas day. She would open a few, and play with whatever struck her fancy, and then went on to the next. She is *really* into trains, so my Father in Law made her a beautiful train table to play with her Thomas stuff. It's a great size for her to play with dollhouses and other toys as she gets older, so she will have it a LONG time!! After lunchtime, we played Beatles Rock Band, which we are now determined to buy...

Today we ran out to a couple of stores for a few things. While we were out, I picked up some toothpaste. When I mentioned it to Den when we got back, SiL said "I wish you'd mentioned that. I have plenty in the garage"... See SiL is one of those amazing shoppers that can get a whole cartful of stuff for $2.15 or something crazy like that. We went out into her garage, and she literally had TUBS of stuff she'd gotten on sale, and said "Take whatever you want". OMG! I filled two paper bags full (as did MiL), and have 6 or 8 bottles of lens solution, since both BiL & SiL no longer use it... I really need to learn how to do that, but we just don't have the storage space!!!! I mean I must have a couple of months worth of dish detergent, and toothpaste. I cannot believe how much stuff she has!!!

Well dinner will be ready soon. Tomorrow we do brunch and head on home. It's been a nice visit, and we need to do it again son, since the niecelet tends to forget us between times. :(

*Yeah, I know I am watching too much Top Gear. Found myself getting pissed off at a BMW on the way to work the other day and yelling "I know it's just a 2.6 liter engine, but you CAN GO FASTER THAN THAT!!!! I have seen Clarkson do it!". Den said I should e-mail the gents and tell them this.
